Cephalonia

Cephalonia (or Kefalonia) is the largest of the Ionian islands, located in the Ionian Sea off mainland Greece's west coast. While the other Ionian islands have a long history of wine production, Cephalonia's wines are the most significant, and are some of the best and most exciting in all Greece. This is largely down to the Robola grape variety, and more specifically to the Robola of Cephalonia PDO - an appellation applied to Robola grown in specific areas and at altitudes above 50 metres. There are several top quality producers of Robola of Cephalonia, and the best wines have a stony minerality, fine citrus and apple flavours, and excellent balance.
