Is Xinomavro Greece's greatest grape? Assyrtiko would have something to say about that, but if we're talking red wine, then in our opinion it certainly is. Xinomavro is not an easy grape to work with, but in skilled hands it produces deep-flavoured wines of real character. It has a similar tannic structure and flavour profile to Nebbiolo, but with a distinctive savoury note of tomato. The finest examples are as ageworthy and complex as the best Barolo.
